Church History

A small group met on July 26, 1999 and discussed the possibilities of starting a nondenominational ministry in Bear, Delaware. After much prayer and research we had our first service at the home of Elder Lamont and Sis. Maria Jones. Elder Lamont W. Jones led the Church service and preached from the message "Brace Yourself" I Peter 5:6-11. The ministry then began praying for a name for the ministry and a building to hold services. On August 3, 1999 we moved to 1218 Pulaski Highway, Suite C-318, Bear, Delaware 19701. God had blessed us with the furnishings and equipment of an established Church. We lacked literally nothing! An Installation and Dedication Service was held August 22, 1999 to officially appoint Elder Lamont W. Jones as Pastor and Founder of Elam Tabernacle. The name Elam comes from Acts 2:9; a small group of ordinary, insignificant people that little is known about. This group of people were called Elamites, who were invited guest of the Holy Spirit in the upper room on the Day of Pentecost. This was an extraordinary, significant event, which involved ordinary, insignificant people. These people worship in a tabernacle, which is a temporary dwelling. Thus the name Elam Tabernacle.

The charter members were:

Pastor Jones

Sis. Maria Jones

Sis. Marie Simmons

Sis. Monique Burton

Deacon Gerald White

Sis. Pam White

Sis. Demetra Huff

Lamar Jones and Janae Huff were our first junior members. Sis. Mary Huff was the first member to join, during our Dedication Service stating, "don't count me out".

Within one year the Lord blessed Elam Tabernacle to move from its current location to a much larger facility. On August 6, 2000 the church was relocated to 28 Bellecor Drive, New Castle, DE 19720. The new building was dedicated on August 20, 2000, during the Church's first anniversary celebration.
